Preview: Three Unmissable Talks at the ACCESSE23 Leadership Conference
/by KnowledgeWorks Global Ltd.
Every year, STEM society professionals from all over the world gather at the ACCESSE Leadership Conference, expertly organized and curated by the Council of Engineering and Scientific Scholarly Executives (CESSE).
This month (July 11-13) the ACCESSE23 event heads to Detroit, Michigan, where it will offer attendees the chance to gain new perspectives, develop new ideas and connect with CESSE members and partners.
Through thought-provoking sessions tailored explicitly for STEM society professionals, this unique event combines leadership development, peer-to-peer connections, and expertise in managing science, technology, engineering, and math societies.
The KGL team is delighted to be supporting the event as partners, and also to be participating in one of its keynote panel debates. The following are just three of our favorite event highlights from this year’s speaking program.
Opening General Session – The Role of Societies in Fostering DEIA in Scholarly Publications (July 12, 9:00–10:15 am)
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are becoming increasingly important to scholarly societies to promote equitable actions that advance diversity and accessibility. In addition to fostering equity in the workplace and diversity among their members, many societies are working actively to increase the diversity of contributors to their journal programs. This session will review disparities research in scholarly publishing, examine the relationship between editorial policy, publication bias, and normality bias, and detail a variety of strategies societies can employ to diversify the contributors to their journals, make their content more equitable, and engage a wider audience.
